Gala Bingo Venue In Dartford Up For Sale? 0
Posted on 21, August 2014
Over the last couple of weeks it seems that we have been reporting on quite a few bingo hall closures, something we didn’t expect considering the recent drop in the tax levied against bingo. A report at Kent Online by Thom Morris [read original here] tells of the Gala Bingo hall in Spital Street being up for sale!
Gala Bingo had been unavailable for comment at the time of the article going to press but the property is being marketed by Alex Martin Property who appears to be targeting faith groups with the sales brochure including lines like ‘We estimate the current building could provide seating for 2,000 worshippers.’
The asking price for the building is £3 million; a building that was original used as a cinema and has a ground, basement and three upper floors. Although not a listed building, the Gala Bingo hall is in a conservation area. This should not put potential buyers off though because court units to the left of the property have previously been demolished.
It is reported that the property brochure includes the line ‘No unsupervised visits, staff unaware’.
A local council leader only became aware of the sale on Tuesday of last week but is hoping that it is just a marketing exercise by the property. He goes on to say that he is aware of the change in gambling with many players moving online and that he is aware of many hall closures across the country.
Is it simply a market test or is the Gala Bingo club in Dartford set to close?
