The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) received a complaint about a commercial shown in August on the Demand 5 service that offered a special offer for Direct Debit players of the Health Lottery. In the advert viewers were offered the chance to play ‘two weeks free’ via a refund that the advertiser would give when playing the lottery. The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) received not one but FOUR complaints about Betfair and a recent commercial that was shown on television and the corresponding ad on the site. It’s usual for this type of ad to receive one, maybe two complaints but four is quite a lot by ASA standards

In November 2012 Mirror Casino had their wrists slapped by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) following an advert in the National press which featured Optimus Prime from Transformers (read more here). The reason that the ASA banned the advert in its original format were three CAP Codes that were breached; 1.3, 16.1 and 16.3.12. Metro Play obviously didn’t take heed of this adjudication because on 8th January their regional press ad received the same ruling!

It was only last week that we reported on an 888 on site advertisement being banned by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) thanks to a complaint by the company behind PokerStars. Usually when we cover an Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) ruling we find that there has been just one complaint made about a commercial or banner. However, this was not the case for NetPlay TV and their SuperCasino brand, three complaints were received about a TV advert for their brand! The Campaign For Fairer Gambling ‘strives for fairness in gambling’. The home page of their website clearly states that this group believe that there are many flaws in the 2005 Gambling Act, the most significant of which they believe relate to fixed odds betting terminals (FOBT). This week it wasn’t only William Hill that came underfire from the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA), Sky Poker also received one complaint about an advert on their site which was perceived as misleading.
